CHHOBIGHAR (Bengali: ছবিঘর) Film Society, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, a Bengali film society based in Chicago, formed to:

• Engage the local community in Chicagoland area in creative and cultural discovery through moving images and by offering regular presentations of diverse cinematic works

• Advocate and encourage the appreciation of Bengali cinema both as a medium of education and as an art

• Conduct Educational Programs by inviting film dignitaries, including film directors, story writers, script-writers, university/college professors, and hosting:

  • Presentations

  • Study sessions

  • Discussion forums

  • Workshops for film making and acting

• Offer interactive sessions (Live and Virtual/Social Media) - The purpose is to allow participants to critique, analyze and immerse themselves in finer points of film making while gaining a deeper appreciation for Bengali/Indian culture. Highly engaged film enthusiasts debate on how recurring themes are brought to life in an innovative manner by the talented directors of Bengali movies.

• Host annual Film Festival to:

  • Showcase Bengali movies in a festive milieu

  • Emphasize cultural integration in Chicagoland area through Bengali films

  • Ensure the next generation has access to the riches of global cinema

 

Inspired by visions of integration, harmony, and celebration of life, CHHOBIGHAR Film Society

• educates and creates awareness of contemporary Bengali films,

• develops an appreciation of Bengali culture, and

• provides access to Bengali movies that otherwise would not be available locally.

 

CHHOBIGHAR Film Society develops a better understanding of the role of movies in today's world, while celebrating inclusivity and diversity, and nurturing the rich tapestry of cultural heritage and legacy of Bengali cinema, by hosting and/or participating in

• Premieres/screenings of critically acclaimed Bengali movies

• Film reviews and criticism to enhance public education and appreciation of films

• Educational programs, presentations, study, discussion forums and Q&A sessions on Bengali cinema tailored to educational needs in understanding current multidimensional socio-cultural and socio-economic phenomena and issues

• Chicago Bengali Film Festival (CBFF).
